Our Mission
To coordinate the resourcing, training, an associated support for the development of an evolving energy efficiency and renewable energy industries workforce with a goal of economic independence for individual workers, including those who seek a pathway out of poverty.
Who We Are
The Green Jobs Alliance is a national nonprofit organization formed by renewable energy industries and labor organizations, that includes a coalition of educational institutions and technical training schools, community service organizations, environmental groups, workforce development boards, green construction companies, sustainable small businesses, and veteran’s groups, who have partnered to provide education, green jobs training, job placement, and career development for the following individuals:
- Unemployed citizens;
- Military veterans;
- At-risk youth including teens who are “aging out” from the state foster care systems;
- Workers affected by national energy and environmental policy;
- Individuals in need of updated training related to energy efficiency, renewable energy industries, and green careers;
- Former incarcerated, adjudicated, non-violent offenders.
- Underemployed individuals
What We Do
In addition to providing green jobs training, the Green Jobs Alliance:
- provides outreach education to high schools and local communities on green job career opportunities;
- conducts research of knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics required in current and future jobs in renewable energy, green construction, sustainability, and environmental protection.
- hosts public green careers educational seminars, workshops, conferences, and briefings;
- produces an educational public affairs program on energy and environmental issues, programs, and careers;
- supports a one-stop Green Careers Center that identifies green job opportunities and candidates throughout the nation;
- lists green jobs on the nation’s first environmental niche job board network on the web;
- helps with green job placement, job data collection, and other labor statistics.
Our Initial Focus
Our initial focus is to establish the infrastructure necessary to implement the Green Jobs Act, that will educate and train individuals in areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy, including our military veterans and those seeking a pathway out of poverty. Specific activities will also focus on development of renewable energy industries such as promoting offshore wind power turbine manufacturing, solar and biofuels development, and in the green construction and renovation of buildings under the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard.
From a regional perspective, the Alliance recognizes that offshore wind power and tidal wave technology provide enormous potential for creating green jobs in generating power for the Smart Grid—primarily along the coastlines of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.
